The Umpire of the Month for November is Alyssa Tong!

Alyssa, one of our younger and upcoming umpires, began playing for the club over 8 years ago. She began umpiring several years ago to develop a deeper understanding of the game. Her favourite part of umpiring is being able to support players and watch the Tri-City teams at all levels of play.

In addition to umpiring, Alyssa coaches one of our U12 teams in the Spring, and plays for the Tri-City Eagles Champions team during the fall. She also played for the Port Moody Secondary School, where she is in her final year of study. After Alyssa graduates this year, she hopes to play field hockey at a varsity level and pursue a nursing career.

We are fortunate to have such a bright, positive young lady on our umpiring squad. Thank you Alyssa for stepping up and representing our club!

Priya Puri is the TCE Umpire of the Month for October! In October she umpired the most games for the club, a total of 7 games in 3 weeks.

Since 2004, Priya has been involved with the Tri-City Eagles Field Hockey Club as a player, coach and umpire. She has umpired for over 7 years, and is one of our senior umpires. She extremely reliable and always steps up to umpire and mentor last minute games.

Priya became an umpire because she wanted to improve her understanding of field hockey and build confidence. “Becoming an umpire helped me become a better player and develop personal everyday skills,” says Priya.

Currently, Priya is in her 4th year of the Forestry Science program at UBC, where she will be writing her undergraduate thesis next year. She hopes to continue conducting research that will benefit the forestry industry of B.C. Her tip to developing umpires is to “trust your instincts, communicate, and have fun!”

Thanks for all your hard work and dedication Priya!
