At the Vancouver Womens Field Hockey Association League Meeting, Cydney Smythies long time contributor to Field Hockey within our Community was presented with the Jennifer Pearson Award.
The Jennifer Pearson Trophy is awarded in recognition of a team member who has not only contributed to her club and team but also to the league
Not only has she provided excellent service to our club for many years as the Fall Women’s coordinator but she continues to do so as a club administrator. She has created an assessment and tryout procedure for our fall women’s program that is second to none and is being adopted by a number of other clubs in our league. This process she continues to refine every year to create an efficient and transparent system that is fair to all players, coaches and teams and also meets our club’s mandate to produce the most competitive teams possible at every division.
Cydney is also very active at the league level and was instrumental in providing significant insight and feedback to a number of controversial proposals that have surfaced in our league. She has joined and created a number of subcommittees including the games committee charged with significant restructuring of our divisions and tiers in an ongoing effort to provide fair and competitive divisions at every level. Cyd also led the charge to create the ‘proxy’ system of voting to ensure all clubs had a fair representative voice in all matters concerning the league.
Cydney continues to play, umpire, coach and organize to this day and has done so for decades. This year she even stepped in to coach at the high school level when another coach could not be found and also umpired a number of games. She emulates fair play in every aspect of the game and we are hopeful that she will continue to hold leadership positions within our club and league for many years to come. The league will not find a more more worthy recipient for the Jennifer Pearson award.
Congratulations to Cydney Smythies from across everyone in our Field Hockey Community
